Stealing a Character (or two!)

Take one (or more than one; you might even take two from different scenes and different students) and put him or her in a new situation. Try to reflect the personality of the character in the new setting as well as you can. The motorcycle father meets the blonde bombshell?!

Have fun with it. Once you've done it, you might feel inspired to work on your story by adding more to your current scene.

His eyes followed the woman in the tight black dress. From his motorcycle seat, Min admired her beauty. Why was she here, this blonde and beautiful woman, in a busy Tai Pei neighbourhood?

As he waited at the light with the 50 other motorcycles and scooters, he noted her catch the heel of her shoe and stumble, then fall.

Min wheeled his motorcycle carefully to the curb and said in broken English, “You fall. Okay? Can help you?” He leaned the heavily laden bike against a light standard and hurried to her side.

“Oh no, I’m fine. Really, I’m okay,” she replied.

But her elbow was bloodied from the fall and she seemed a bit woozy to Min. “I take you home. Okay?” he offered. To this she shook her head violently. It seemed odd to him that she wouldn’t want his help.

“I really have to go. Now!” She clutched a black briefcase to her closely as if her life depended on it somehow. Min wondered what might be in there that was so very important.

Just then a large black limousine screeched to a halt beside them. A balding man wearing aviator-style sunglasses got out and hurried to the woman’s side. “Get out of my way!” —208 words

They both walked back to our table.

“I want you to meet a good friend of mine Nori Kim - Nori, this is the guy I was telling you about.”

“Pleased to meet you” she said with a coy smile.

Shaking her hand, I noticed that it was very soft and warm.

“The pleasures mine, would you like to join us for a cup of coffee?” I said, trying not to act too nervous.

“That would be nice thank you, Charles tells me you work for the CIA”

“Yes, mostly domestic intelligence operations, nothing to serious.”

“Sounds serious to me.”

“Well, I have to run and catch my plane; I’ll leave you two to get acquainted”

“Charles wait! What’s in the briefcase?”

Oh this? This is something Nori won’t be needing any more… right?

“Yes Charles good bye” she answered in a boring tone.

“b-but wait!” I said.

Just then, Nori reached for my arm knocking my cup of coffee all over my shirt.

“Oh my gosh! Im so sorry Toby here let me wipe that for you”

“Oh no that’s ok these things happen” – 185 words

Story idea stolen from ESther

Nori Kim looked at the photo she got from her new contract, a little surprised. The women in the picture is a well-dressed lady glittering with jewels. Nori Kim can roughly judge her identity without further consideration—a wealthy woman who has a cheating husband, or who turns to be a stingy miser with millions of fortune—the target she used to kill in her previous contracts. And who else but themselves do people have to blame for that? If you look wealthy, you invite thieves.

However, these are not what surprised Nori Kim. She has done several cases, none of them were unsuccessful. They were all clean and efficient. As a senseless killer, she earned her reputation this way. Nori Kim believed that she was born to be a killer after her miserable years in the orphanage and knowing her own mother abandoned her. She has no smiles, no mercy, and no tears since then. But this women, the woman with name Toby J. Lee, is her biological mother: the ambitious girl who abandoned her own daughter and married the son of the richest family in Korea. Nori Kim did the investigation of her mother when she got her first payment as a killer. She never thought she would meet her mother in her life. In Nori Kim’s mind, her mother had died long time ago.

Nori Kim threw the picture into the tea table and lit a cigarette. As she stared out of the window, she sneered at nowhere and murmured: ”Nice to meet you. Mama.”

it seems like my characters are popular, so happy... yey! especially to linda and marco...nice characters... but i think you misunderstand my characters, linda because Nori Kim was adopted by her mother's best friend (as you'll know later) and second Toby J. Lee is Nori's boyfriend... anyways, so good to see my characters on the other side of point of view...^^

Stealing Characters (When Nori meets Jim):

As Jim waited for someone to come in the mall, she came up to him and said,

“Hi.”

“Hi.”

“Do you have a gum?”

“No, but I have a candy.”

“Ok. I’ll have that.” As she said it, she held her hair back to her ear.

“H . . .here.” He stuttered suddenly,

“It’s not like me.” He said to himself.

“Thank you.” As she said it, she smiled it with her eyes. And that could mean anything to a little boy, like Jim.

As Jim wanted to ask more about her, his mom said loudly in broken English,

“Why you wait here, huh? Jimmy . . .?”

Jim wanted to hide, as his mom approached to him. He secretedly wish she didn’t see him and his mom together.

But luckily, she didn’t see that because she was here to kill Toby J. Lee secretedly.

The blare of trumpets and the loud shouts from the political candidates drew Min's attention from the grocery back to the traffic lights. He had been detested that noise especially when the election day was around the corner.

As he turned his eyes back, he noticed a red Nissan March stopping on his left. It was common to see such a mini car in this crowded big city, moreover it was so popular now, and even thought it was also often to see foreigners in Taipei, but this blond hair woman in black body-tight dress looked different. She was prettier than pretty, like a porcelain doll, or actually he preferred calling her "china doll" because the word of china was easier for him to remember in English language.

Once he thought about learning English. "But, for what? I never really need it for a living," he told to himself. Needless to say, this woman was too beautiful. "The number of her admirers probably is as huge as the stars in the sky," he guessed. Every time in the pubs, none of a foreign woman would accept his treat, just for a drink, or look at him, even just glance. So, he never wished or desired an affair with a foreign woman, but he just could not help to peek at her, and couldn't explain the feeling he exactly got from this woman. When the lights were changing, from the corner of his eyes, he noticed a black briefcase on the seat beside her. It looked so similar, especially its gold trim. Soon he got a creepy feeling, for he thought of the horrible event. "Who is she?" he wondered.
