“Mmm, so good . . . Do you wanna try?” I said to Jenny, and she looked at me open-mouthed.

When I was a teenager and Jenny was a newcomer to our church. Luckily, I was a member of newcomers’ committee. She smiled at me, and instantly we became friends.

As we getting to know each other, I learned she doesn’t like to eat anything to do with a dried Pollack, but I love to eat that.

One time, I wanted to surprise her by cooking the steamed dried Pollack so she could change her mind.

I cooked for her and decided not to say anything. And so, here she was, not knowing anything about the Pollack.

When she tried have a bite, she smelled something and asked me,

“Isn’t it the dried Pollack?”

“How could she even guess that? I covered the dried Pollack so she couldn’t see.” I thought.

At the end, my friend watched me eating the dried Pollack, and she ate a bar of chocolate.

Small black shiny olives in bowls. Olives with pits; olives without. Jumbo or sliced; stuffed or halved; green or black. Olives! The world loves olives. When olive groves burned in Greece, farmers cried.

Sour and salty on the tongue, the olive slides down easy. Try them on pizza, in your martini. Try them all!

Beans

“What? I love to eat green beans!” I said to my roommate. I like them cold, steamed, fried, and roasted. Actually, I love them in any ways possible.

Rich in vitamin A and C, green beans are the best supper in summers. Mix them with onions, tomatoes, sausages, lemon, salt and pepper for flavour. It is easy to cook.

I also found in Oriental medicine notes that, “Green beans increase yin and so they are regarded as a food tonic for people with anxiety, insomnia, frenetic energy, or feverish, hot symptoms.”

There's nothing better then a big red juicy tomato. So full of that wet, slimy texture that just engulfs your mouth. They can be used on anything! On bread for a sandwich, cut up with some salt on them or just eat them like you would any other fruit! Food for your whole family. Have an entire meal full of tomato's! Tomato soup, tomato paste, tomato juice, tomato pie and even tomato salad! Your whole family will be begging for more! There is most definitely nothing better then having this delicious red fruit take over your entire diet. You can save hundreds of dollars just by simply replacing every food in your regular diet with them. Try it! Try tomato's!

Peas
I try to use green peas everyday in my food. Peas and pods, raw and cooked -anyway they are delicious. Green peas provide chlorophyll and are packed with nutrients that are good for bones and eyes. Peas are very convenient to make something delicious from soup and rice to pasta and stir-fried vegetables. Even I enjoy them in salad everyday. Just steam the peas with pods, put light salt and black pepper and enjoy.

What makes me homesick most? The food cooked by my mom. Yummy, yummy! Fully loaded with the delicate maternal love!
My mom’s special is dumpling. Those huge dumplings were so unique not only in their aircraft carrier--sizes but also the unforgettable tastes. The secret recipe of stuffing invented by herself usually mixed more eight to ten different items which became quite exotic. I was always ecstatic whenever I tried her dumplings or anything made by her.
And she would never get mad at me even I forgot to give my compliments sometimes. Trust me!

While I was young, fat meat, grease and the lipids were the least favorite foods. Growing up, I hate them very more, for I know these unsatisfied fats are harmful for the health.

Once a time, the chef made the pie with the cracklings and leeks. The pies were in golden colour and sizzled with steam. It seemed like it was the daintiest food in the world. I ate one pie after another till there was no room for the new one. And we all ate like a horse.

I wondered that why I like this kind of the least favorite food as the most favorite food this time.
That was easy to understand, for we all just came out from the famine for three years.

Raspberry, yummy. Whenever I open my fridge and see the jam, hmm it makes me hungry. I stir the jam with peanut butter and spread them on brown bread, especially toasted wonder bread.

When I go to Superstore, anything that has raspberries in them call my name, raspberry jam, raspberry muffin, raspberry juice and even the fresh ones.

When you peek in a co-customer’s cart, there’d two or there boxes of it. Raspberry, it’s the world’s beloved and healthiest food ever.

After I have been Canada, I knew Tim Hortons and was deeply absorbed by the rich food of it, especially by the delicious donuts -- Apple Fritter, Honey Dip, Boston Cream ,Honey Cruller ,Old Fashion Plain ,Walnut Crunch, Chocolate Dip ,Chocolate Glazed…..

Simple materials, different compound modes get the one and one amazing classic sweet foods. Every time, when I face the show case, full of beautiful things in eyes always makes me hesitate to choice. I think this why people always like to buy it dozen by dozen.

Drinking the black coffee, tasting the sweet donuts, reading the newspaper and soaking in the lovely sunshine, this is the most favourite way to enjoy the life in Canada.

Cheese cake: blueberry cheese cake, cheese cake with strawberry topping, cheese cake with chocolate topping, cheese cake with all sorts of sweet substance.

Take a bite, the cheese taste doesn’t have any relationship with cheese, maybe, it is because of the sugar, so, so sweet, I imagine my teeth would fall out and the sugar could keep you going for days. How happy it would have made me.

My mouth became bitter after the first bite, how miracle, a sweet thing might bring you bitterness. A bitter food like olive could bring you sweetness afterwards. Which one should I choose? Maybe, that was life.
