Online Newspaper: More Help With Ideas

Thinking of yourselves and other students you know at the ALC, what else would interest them? Ideas like Hiromi's (about a teacher, for instance) could work to help you develop interviewing skills as well. Think creatively and put your ideas in the comments here. I'll be bringing another handout (taken from Campus Weblines) To see some ideas from the Times, look at this chapter, Web Site Features: Extra! Extra!

I've taught a lesson on writing a restaurant review in the past. Since we all like to eat (and our readership does, too) it may be a place to start. See the old worksheet from Level 4 and a review of Kalamata, still my favourite Greek restaurant! BTW, be sure to check out James' essay under Why I Write: Revisions!

"Writing"

Writing could mean anything for me.It could be a flame in the Winter, a current in our heart, a tune in the music or even an evidence for history.

writing could spark a flame to warm me up while I am frustrated. No doubt, those depressions could simply be released from the ink of my pen. Writing could brighten my perspectives through analizing ideas from different angles. It can either bring me to sucess or burn me down that all depends on how I use the words properly in the writing.

Writing could moisturize a solitary soul in the civilized society. A passionate writing is a currrent, it may drain into the blood of reader's mind, and even change reader's thought. It could also encourage those introverts to gush out their view points to the open forum like "Blog" to share with others.

Writing could be a masterpiece of music, such as Bethovan's magnificent surge or Chopan's soft beauty. It leads reader's moods up and down, or even immerses them into unforgetable melody; therefore,a piece or good writing is always a deep root into people's heart, so we could never overlook the mighty power of writing.

Writing could manifest the historical past, link the unknow future and transcend the time and space. Evidently, millions of writings in different languages recorded the historical events, and it may also create records for the unknown future. What we write today may still influence the readers in the future.

The winter will be gone, the current will fade, the music will out of style, but the evidence of history has been written down through writing ,and it can not be changed. Time and writing will co-exist forever. That's the reason I want to keep writing.

Ben...you've just popped up while I'm previewing my comment....wrong post.....I'll comment it later.

Career Choices of PALC Graduates would be interesting, too.

After graduation, which schools they went? And what are they doing now?

I remember Trudy talked about the guy who went SFU, getting master's degree. (The old guy with a granddaughter on PALC web page last year)
That would be inspirational for us students.

And I was wondering what the girl on the web page (Danica?) is doing now...

BUT it is tough to get contact with graduates, isn't it?!

Also, I was wondering if we can upload pictures, too. Can we?

Hiromi,

We even have a camera to use! So, yes photos, but you'll need to work out a model release to use pictures of recognizable people.

We may think about a "pictures column" where we could post some pictures we would like to share with others. The pictures could be taken by ourself about our daily life or from some other resources about this world.

Hi, Dear classmates,

I’m learning “B.C First Nations Studies” this term and it is very interesting—we’ve discussed many current events and issues in class.

I think it is not only good for learning Canadian history, culture, and problems but also useful for learning English. If we want to be a good writer, we must learn more, right?

What surprised me is only seven students in this class! Why don’t you come and try it right now?

I've read the link, so here's some from the pages.

Word of the Day:
Since we are all learning English, why not?

Letter From Readers:
So we can get feedback from other student, and I hope it would be a great place for us to interact.
Polls on the web is also interesting but maybe too ambitious for starters. And extra work for a webmaster.

Classified:
Used text books, cars, etc.

Course Information From Students:
Like Catherine mentioned about First Narion Studies, we can outline the course and give information from student's point of view.

Computer Tips:
What to do when you get viruses, how to copy and paste, etc.

School and Employment Information:
Where to start to look for a job, how to apply college, and so on.

Yoga Tip, Best Chocolate for Valentinde, Why Roses Cost So Much? We Can Save the Earth (can we?), Where Is a Good Dentist? and many more...
