The Pearson Buzz: Story Ideas

Here's where you can "pitch" an idea to us. If, like Linda, you have already written a piece that might be used at the Buzz, name it. Sketch out your idea in a bit of detail and suggest a suitable length. Also, say why student readers may be interested in your story idea.

This morning I viewed the webpage of Pearson Buzz. I got some quick thoughts about the features. Here they are:

Feature’s name: Poetic Garden
Purpose: encourage students to write their own poems. They can also introduce their favorite poems, and tell us why they like them. Those who take English 11 and 12 course would like it.

Feature’s name: TV Hunter
Purpose:
1, bring your favorite TV series and introduce them to students.
2, recommendation of TV programs to students from different levels in order to help them improve speaking and listening English.

For example: (my recommendation)
Best for ESL and English 10 : Friends, Growing Pain
Best for Law 12 student: Boston Legal, The Good Wife, Harry’s Law
Best for biology 12: House, Gray’s Anatomy, Khan’s Academy(from Youtube)
Best for psychology students: Lie to Me, Criminal Minds
Best for English 11 and 12: Justice, What’s The Right Thing To Do (the open course of Harvard University, youtube)
Best for family study 12 : Families and Couples ( open course, UCLA, provided by youtube)

Linda,

Wow! I really appreciate your ideas. I bet that watching "The Good Wife" would be intriguing to a law class, especially since it tends to show the seamy side, the back room nature of the trade. Guess that's why Shakespeare cautioned us about lawyers!

As for me, I can contribute an article to our "On Writing" section, based on my experiences of the past five years teaching Writing 12. I can easily argue that my teaching has made me a better writer and hope to explain how this came to be.

-story idea for The Pearson Buzz:

I still don’t know what to write, but if I have to choose, I guess write about Korean snack food called, “Tteokbokyi.” It’s really hot and tasty if you like hot and spicy (if you like Mexican food, that is). It’s made out of long rice cakes, and mixed with variety of vegetables, chipotle paste, and jalapeƱo papers. I’m getting hungry even I thought about it. Can’t wait for me to share a recipe with you guys!

I'm thinking to offer my experience of getting a dubious call, which happened in Taiwan about 5 years ago. I wrote this topic before but never show at PALC. My English now should be better than that time. I'd like to rewrite it.
Nowadays people potentially get scammed, especially through phone call or text, email. Various tricks are improved day by day. How to avoid frauds? How to protect ourselves? I think it's an important issue in this technology century.

I'm also considering writing about our environment for the section of "Rants and Raves" on the Personal Buss. Some people might have known about my story of the "Cherry Trees" if they've read the "Record". I'd like to talk about it as well as some issues in our life.
Do you notice there are more and more litters on the streets? Do you see that more and more newspapers are left on the buses and in the skytrain carts in a mess? Have you ever seen someone spit on the streets? Yes, in beautiful Metro Vancouver. I worry what is going to affect our environment. Do you?

Which one is interested you more? Vote! Thanks!
